Displaying proportions
In fine art printing, two images can be exactly the same size in centimeters yet still have different aspect ratios. The aspect ratio is the ratio of an image’s width to its height. When the aspect ratio of the original file does not match the requested final aspect ratio, it is necessary to crop part of the image or adjust the final size to preserve the original composition. This tool visually illustrates that difference.
To put it another way: it’s a bit like those children’s games where you had to fit each piece into its exact shape. Sometimes we try to fit a rectangle into a square… and the picture, naturally, doesn’t fit.
